My husband recently got me the Potion Purple Loungefly backpack I’ve been thinking about as my birthday gift (cue the heart-eyes emoji)! He knows I pack lightly when we go to Disneyland, and I have been wanting to check out how a Loungefly backpack works as my version of a diaper bag!*

*Note: We haven’t carried a true “diaper bag” since our son was a few months old. We do better with a small backpack.. details below!

The Backpack

The Potion Purple backpack has metallic purple adjustable straps, a zippered pocket on the front, and open pockets on the side (roughly the size of a phone), in addition to the main zippered portion. It also has a small loop on the top, so it can be hung up on a purse rack for storage when not in use.

Mom Stuff

  • phone
  • wallet

  • ears

Baby Stuff

  • snacks
  • diapers
  • wipes
  • sunscreen
  • extra outfit

Will it all fit?

Here’s how I packed the backpack:

Mom Stuff

  • phone
  • wallet
  • keys
  • chapstick

These items all went in the front zippered portion . Since I won’t be getting my keys out (keyless entry is one of my favorite things about cars these days), I buried my keys at the bottom. I carry a very small wallet, so this didn’t take up too much room. My chapstick also stays in there habitually; I don’t use it too often but I want to make sure it’s in my Disney bag just in case I need it. Lastly, my phone was in and out of the backpack frequently. My Annual Pass is connected with the Disneyland App, so I didn’t need to be reaching into my wallet too often. I rotated my phone between the zippered pocket and my own shorts pocket.

  • snacks
  • ears

The ears I wore on my head, of course, and stuck into the stroller when I wanted to take them off. The snacks fit in the backpack.

Baby Stuff

  • sunscreen
  • extra outfit

These items all fit into the backpack. I rolled up the extra outfit and put it on the bottom – I figured we more than likely would not need it, but I’d rather have one just in case! The sunscreen went into the side pouch.

  • diapers
  • wipes

These items I ended up putting in our portable diaper changing mat, available here. That way, when our son needs a change, I can just carry him and the changing mat, leaving my husband with the stroller and the rest of the belongings. I’m not stuck carrying a large backpack into the restroom or Baby Care Center!

  • sippy cup
  • snacks

These also popped in and out of the backpack. When we were walking around, I kept them in the stroller for easy access. When we went on a ride, I put the sippy cup and a snack or two in the backpack in case he got hungry while in line.

The Breakdown

In total, here’s what we kept in the backpack at all times:

  • wallet
  • keys
  • chapstick
  • sunscreen
  • extra outfit

Here’s what popped in and out of the backpack:

  • phone
  • snacks (mom & baby)
  • sippy cup

Here’s what did not make it into the backpack:

  • diaper
  • wipes
  • ears

Final Thoughts

Would I use this backpack as my go-to park bag? Absolutely! As you can see, we travel pretty lightly, so it’s easy to get by with using a smaller backpack for day trips to the park. I personally don’t like carrying big backpacks, because I’m already carrying a child (or bending over to hold his hand), and I don’t want to strain my back further. The downside to carrying a smaller backpack + changing pad is security takes a bit longer since two bags have to be checked.

Overall, it works great for my son and I, and I’m looking forward to using it in January for our adults-only trip to Walt Disney World!
