Packing Up & Dropping Our Bags
First things first, we needed to pack up and drop off our bags. One of our favorite aspects of staying at a Walt Disney World Resort is Disney’s Magical Express! Disney’s Magical Express takes guests to and from the airport, included with the cost of your stay on property. That morning, we received a letter at our hotel room door which would serve as our “tickets” to board the bus later in the day. It also specified what time we would need to be there.
We held onto the letter in our carry-on bags, and packed up everything else in our checked luggage. Resort airline check-in is available for many major airline carriers. It is located close to Bell Services at Walt Disney World Resort hotels, and it operates during morning hours. At resort airline check-in, guests check in for their flight, receive boarding passes, and can pay for & drop off checked luggage for many major airline carriers. That means when Disney’s Magical Express drops us off at the airport, all we have to do is go straight through TSA to our gate. Easy!
After packing up our bags, we headed downstairs, checked in for our flights, got our boarding passes, paid for and dropped off our checked bags, and dropped off our carry-on luggage at Bell Services. My husband wasn’t feeling that great, so he went back to the room to rest. The remainder of us went on out to Animal Kingdom!
Pandora!
The three of us arrived right around 9:15am, and headed straight for Navi River Journey, which we had missed earlier on in our trip. The wait was about 15-20 minutes, but had swelled to about 45 minutes by the time we got off the ride. Perfect timing! We then immediately used our FastPass+ on Avatar: Flight of Passage. If you can’t get a FastPass+ for Flight of Passage, your best bet is to rope drop it – and trust me, you don’t want to miss this one!
Africa & Asia
We spent the rest of the morning hitting the highlights of Animal Kingdom, using our next FastPass+ on Kilimanjaro Safaris. Even though we had done this one earlier in the trip, it’s a great attraction to experience multiple times because you never know what animals you’re going to see out on the savannas!
The exit of the attraction drops guests off at the starting point for the gorilla trail, which we had missed earlier on in our trip. We wandered through, pausing at the hippos, zebras, and gorillas. There were a couple of younger gorillas who were super cute and very popular – this was a really crowded exhibit. If you’re interested in seeing the gorillas up close, be patient!
We used our final FastPass+ on Expedition Everest, another one of our favorites and a great way to end our trip.
The Last Lunch
Our last lunch on property was at the Mara quick-service dining location over at Jambo House. We met up with my husband and enjoyed a leisurely lunch, talking over the highlights of the trip. When we were ready to head over to Kidani to get picked up for the airport, we decided to walk instead of wait for the shuttle (it’s about a ten minute walk).
Disney’s Magical Tragical Express
Now it’s time… to say goodbye… to all our company….
This is the saddest part of any Walt Disney World vacation: Disney’s Magical Express pulling up to take tired but satisfied guests back to the airport to go home. At this point we call it the “tragical” express because we don’t want to go home!! We got there a bit early, grabbed our carry-on bags from Bell Services, and waited for the motorcoach to pick us up.
It was a comfortable, relaxing ride, and before we knew it we were at the airport. TSA was quick (which is surprising because usually TSA in Orlando can be pretty slow), and we arrived at our gate with enough time to grab a bite to eat.
Home
The flight was uneventful, and our checked bags arrived quickly. My mom was there to pick us up, and we were all glad – we were extremely tired! My parents kept our son for that one extra night because we got home close to midnight and we were exhausted.
