Summer 2020 is upon us and that means it’s time for the newest edition of RunDisney’s virtual race series! To find out more about upcoming RunDisney events, including in-person and virtual races, visit their website here!

It’s been a long time since I’ve run. In fact, the last race I ran was the 2017 Tinker Bell Half Marathon. Prior to that I ran the 2017 Princess Half Marathon in Walt Disney World – you can read all about my experience running that race here!

I signed up for this series for a number of reasons:

  1. I want & need to get back into running.
  2. The medals! I love the theme parks above all else, and this year’s attraction-themed medals are TO DIE FOR!
  3. We’ve been quarantined for awhile now, and I really need to get out of the house.

5k Progress Trackers

To make things easier on myself, I created 3 Virtual 5k Progress Trackers. I opted to go in 1/4 mile increments (plus the .1 mile at the end!) so that I could ease myself back into running just a short distance, but still leave myself the option to do 1/2 mile, a full mile, or even the full 3.1 miles in one go!

Here are the files available for download! Download 1, 2, or all 3, and track your progress!

Running Tips

Make sure to stretch before running. Take water with you, and a phone if you are running alone. Watch for cars, cyclists, wildlife, and other runners. Use crosswalks as directed. If running at night, stay visible! Stay on a lighted trail and/or wear reflective gear. Safety first!

In light of social distancing, maintain at least a 6 foot separation from others.

Make sure to use proper equipment – this means running shoes and socks, and proper apparel. You don’t want to be stuck on a running route having to adjust your clothes or shoes constantly.

If you want to use a training plan, Jeff Galloway’s training plans are recommended by RunDisney and can be found for free here!

If you’re injured or something feels off, get in contact with a doctor or medical professional ASAP.
