Late in the summer, before indoor dining was allowed in California, my family and I visited the Green Dragon Tavern in Carlsbad for lunch! We ate out on the makeshift patio, which had many umbrellas scattered about to provide shade from the warm SoCal sun.
What I love about this restaurant is it’s not just a restaurant… it’s a museum, too! And as a history buff who happens to love food, what better combo is there than a museum with food? And did I mention — museum entry is FREE!
Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we could not go inside the museum. We have been before and enjoyed the Revolutionary-era exhibits! I will have to go back and check it out once the restrictions are lifted.
Anyways, the Green Dragon Tavern is recognizable as the sold brick colonial-style building in the area. The menu here is solid – offering everything from pizzas to sandwiches and salads, to burgers, and more! I opted for the fish & chips, and I was delighted with my entree.
It did get fairly warm out on the patio, but the staff did their best with the umbrellas that they had. And, the food was delicious! We will definitely be back again.
