The 2022 D23 Expo is underway and although I’m not attending in person this year, I’ve got you covered on all the announcements! I’ll be updating throughout the weekend as new information comes out.

Disneyland Resort

Disneyland Park

100th Anniversary of The Walt Disney Company

• New platinum decorations, merchandise, outfits for Mickey & Minnie starting late January 2023
• Magic Happens parade returning late January 2023
• World of Color: One – Late January 2023
• Wondrous Journey nighttime fireworks spectacular at Disneyland – Late January 2023
  • Honoring all 60 Disney animated films
  • New song
  • Projection mapping throughout the park

Toontown

• Opening 2023
• Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – new attraction with El Capitoon as its entry. Based on the concept art, queue appears to feature Mickey throughout the years – Sorcerer Mickey, Steamboat Willie, Disco Mickey, Mousercise, etc.
• CenTOONial Park – 2 interactive play areas including a fountain & water tables, lawn area
• Cafe Daisy quick service restaurant taking over previous restaurant locations
• Good Boy Grocers Market replaces Goofy’s Gas Station (grab & go cart)
• Goofy’s House – “How-To-Play Yard” with soft ground in an enclosed area with elevated clubhouse, sound garden, and a candy-making contraption
• Donald’s Boat – spinning water wheels, balance beams, & rocking toys. Water play area as well.
• Chip & Dale’s Treehouse appears to have been removed.
• Mickey & Minnie’s Houses appear unchanged, as does Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin
• Retheme appears to be coming to Gadget’s Go Coaster.

New Orleans Square

• Eudora’s Chic Boutique – opens September 20, 2022 in the space that was Le Bat En Rouge. Will sell accessories & cookware featuring Princess & The Frog

Critter Country

• Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – late 2024 – scale model is on display – iconic tree from the top of Splash Mountain appears to have been removed
• Purple glow appears on the inside of the big drop
• Tiana’s Foods water tower on the outside of the attraction appears prominently
• Tiana is an entrepreneur – she’s hosting a party, but she needs our help & we go on an adventure to the Bayou where we meet new characters along the way!
• Animation & lighting effects at night
• Mist will be used like a painter’s canvas – true bayou magic!
• Voice actors from the movie will lend their voices to the attraction.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

• Mandalorian & Grogu characters coming live in-person in mid-November 2022

Disney California Adventure Park

Avengers Campus

• New attraction coming that will “bring guests into battle alongside their favorite Super Heroes” – based on the multiverse. Purple-ish area near Mission Breakout.
• Entirely new concept – battle alongside all the Avengers against King Thanos. Thanos won, and the Avengers are not happy, and guests are going alongside to help.
• Ride vehicle appears to seat 4 across in at least 2 rows of seats, based on concept art.
• Some characters in this attraction we have not met yet.
• Larger than life Hulk character coming for a meet & greet starting September 2022

Pacific Wharf – Becoming San Fransokyo

• Baymax Meet & Greet

Disneyland Hotel

• The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel – Name for the DVC Villas

• Concept art shows a mid-century modern style
• A dozen new and reimagined locations showcasing southern California culture

Happily Ever After

• Fireworks spectacular returning in 2023 after the 50th anniversary celebration ends at the end of March 2023 – updated version of the show coming back to Magic Kingdom Park

Moana – Journey of Water

• Scale model of Journey of Water is on display, and it’s been revealed that a 16 foot Te Feti will be part of the attraction

Walt the Dreamer Statue

• New statue of Walt will be installed at Dreamers Point in Epcot. The actual statue is on display at D23 Expo this year!

New Nighttime Spectacular

• Late 2023 Premiere for the 100th Anniversary of The Walt Disney Company – World Showcase Lagoon (replacing Harmonious)

Overall Epcot Remodel

• Ride vehicle maquettes for the Frozen attraction, Tangled attraction, & Peter Pan attraction are on display. Frozen & Tangled ride vehicles look similar – they are both boats, and they look like the Frozen Ever After boat from Epcot. Peter Pan’s ride vehicle looks like a pirate ship.
• New hotel will be integrated into the park in this area

Arendelle: World of Frozen – Opens Late 2023

• Concept art, maquettes, & more are on display at D23 Expo! Guests can see Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs, which looks similar to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, but with a Frozen theme. The ride vehicle maquette is on display, and it’s a sleigh!
• Frozen Ever After vehicle maquettes are also on display. They look almost identical to those at Epcot.

Zootopia-Themed Land

Zootopia Ride – Name TBA

• Concept art & a maquette revealed at D23 Expo shows what the ride vehicles look like – police cars! They look similar to the Ratatouille ride vehicles.
• Zootopia Police Department is the entry for the attraction

Disney Cruise Line

• 6th Ship: Disney Treasure
  • Adventure themed ship inspired by Aladdin
• Disney Wonder will go to Australia & New Zealand – Late October 2023
  • Repositioning cruises on this ship will also be available
• Lighthouse Point – New Private Island for Disney Cruise Line
  • 90% of the power for the island will come from solar power

• Walt Disney’s Airplane will reside in an exhibit in at the Palm Springs Air Museum, which will open on December 5.

100th Birthday – Disney 100 Years of Wonder

• October 16, 2023 marks the 100th birthday of The Walt Disney Company, and the big celebration begins New Year’s Eve! Mickey & Minnie will get new costumes as part of the celebration.
